FACE TO FACE is the brutally honest and true story of two women whose lives become connected forever in an unimaginable tragedy a head-on drunk driving collision. Relentlessly and emotionally pulled inside their world in alternating chapters, readers cannot escape asking themselves the same two questions Sheryl Maloy and Audrey Conn (formerly Kishline) faced in reality What would Sheryl say to the drunk driver who killed her 12-year-old daughter and the man she loved in the prime of his life? How would Audrey live with the ravaging guilt and irreversible fact that she took the lives of two innocent people? A startling admission is revealed in the NEW PREFACE by Audrey Conn. Neither had ever fully read the original version of this book, published over five years ago. They could not even open the cover. Why? In a raw, unedited dialogue of rage, desperation, passion and finally acceptance, the difficult missing gap in their journeys is summarized. Now it is clear that Sheryl and Audrey have the strength and the courage to share their inspirational message of change, compassion, hope and the healing miracle of true forgiveness. (Inside 16 pages of photographs, including family portraits and images of crash site.)

I was prepared to totally embrace this book based on its real-life tragedy. My heart went out to Sheryl and her amazing ability to forgive...truly incredible. And while not very well written I don't believe she ever claimed to be a writer; her story was told from the heart. I was so disappointed and sad for Audrey. Rather than give away the ending to someone who might choose to read the book, I would just say that based on the spiritual awakening she professed to have, her solution seemed incongruent. I'm not sure I would recommend the book for any other reason that to read what Sheryl has to say. She is a remarkable woman.Product details

Face To Face An Astonishing True Story of Tragedy and Forgiveness Audrey Conn Sheryl Maloy 9781478194026 Books Reviews
I must say this book was well written.. I do wish it could have been more about the victims and not so much about the drunk driver. It is so sad that this is what happens so many times in this life!!! The book was good but could have been better!!
What personal power that Sheryl could write her story so honestly and disclose such private and hurtful information. Audrey did as well but her story clearly is less moving. I watched a recent interview with her and all she could talk about was the pain her jail sentence imposed on her. I don't have a problem with her personal premise of "Moderation Management". One of the best books I ever read was The Art of Moderation An Alternative to Alcoholism. I have a lot of problems with AA and their self flagellation and having to label yourself as powerless. This book is a moving read and is really pretty interesting as well as different as anything else I have ever read. I would recommend it for anybody interested in substance abuse. I just wish Audrey Kishline's chosen path had worked for her. I mean, if I had killed two people I hope I would reconsider sipping wine on my couch every night...UPDATE read this again, feel Audrey's story can still be moving in the right context. My initial emotional reaction to her was anger but now swings to sympathy. This book is worth reading for all accounts.
Sad story turned positive by a wonderful women. Didn't like the way it read thru though would make better movie.
This is the best story of forgiveness I've ever read!!!! I couldn't put it down.
It is a book I couldn't stop reading , so much gratitude and I will not drink and drive and I learned so much about forgiving , I loved how sincere you were .
Every addict/alcoholic and every person affected by and alcoholic/addict should read this.
In 1995, Audrey Conn, a woman with alcohol dependence, formed a plan to deal with alcoholism moderately. She had been in and out of AA Nd abstinence programs. She found that she, and others, we're resistant to admitting to alcoholism as a life long label. She could not give up alcohol forever. She decided to write a program with nine steps that would manage alcohol abuse with a thirty day abstinence program followed by drinking only within a structure. One rule was to never drive drunk.
Sheryl Maloy faced her own problems with an alcoholic father and a cruel mother. She had periods of depression and struggled. She believes her help must lie with God in her heart.
Audrey's Moderate Management garnered tremendous attention. She had a substantial following. A Stanford research program found a third had to go to AA, a third remained, and a third just disappeared. I was working with addicts at the time, and I believe this was a tremendously harmful program because it kept people from facing the need for abstinence, with often disastrous results.
In 2000 , Audrey who was aware she was not following her own program, drove drunk. She drove the wrong way up a highway and killed Sheryl's husband and daughter.
This book is by both women. It details the events leading to the crash, the crash, Audrey's jail time, and Cheryl's decision to meet with her and forgive her.
I bought this book following my viewing an interview they did with Dr. Drew.on the program Rehab. They were addressing a group of addicts and I was impressed with the depth of insight both women displayed. This is an important book given its deep attempts for honesty. Audrey now says that while AA is not the perfect solution, she can see the Need for sobriety. I wish she would absolutely reject moderate drinking, but she does absolutely insist that alcoholism demands sobriety. Her struggle is very instructive, as is the story of Cheryl and her struggle. Addiction has been a tremendous rudeness to many people and their families. This book without denomizing or excusing behavior is a good addition for anyone struggling to understand the issues. It is a relationship most of us struggle to understand, but one I think which is healing to them both and potentially to other families.
